The Exus campus is located inside of the pasture called La Calandria, within the Huapoca Ranch. This 18,000-acre beauty is owned by the Roberts family, who are also a part of an international ministry called H.I.M.
The Huapoca ranch has three main functions:
This map from mapquest will give you a general idea of where the campus is located. Basically, we're a five-hour drive NW of the city of Chihuahua, capital of Chihuahua State, right belo Texas and New Mexico. The city of Madera, marked with the red star, is a few miles away, which take about an hour-and-a-half of driving on dirt roads. We go to the dity once a week for supplies and groceries, and about once a month for church.
The climate here is not as cold as the one in the Copper Canyon area, on the other side of the Sierra Madres. The cold season runs from November through February, with a few inches of snow here and there. The heat reaches its peak in May, right before the rainy season starts in June to cool things off. Semester start usually finds us with a lush and green campus, with plenty of water running down the brooks and arroyos. For the months of September and October, you can expect to wear shorts during the day and a sweatshirt in the evening. And then in November, you put your wood-splitting skills to the test to keep those water and space heaters going.
If you want an aproximate temperature report for La Calandria, locate the weather report and forecast for the city of Chihuahua, and take 10 degrees (F) off of the reported temps.
These images represent well the seasons mentioned in the paragraph above. But still, the reaction we usually get from our students when they arrive here is something to the effect of "This is way more beautiful than it looks in the pictures online!" We hope that the beauty God created for us to enjoy here will also take your breath away on your arrival.
